Desert Navigation
Reading the dunes and avoiding heat exhaustion.
Deserts are deceptive. The vast openness can make navigation incredibly difficult without reliable landmarks.

1. Timing Your Travel
The golden rule of the desert is to move when the sun is low. Travel early in the morning and late in the afternoon. During peak heat (10 AM to 4 PM), find shade and rest. This dramatically reduces water loss.
2. Reading the Landscape
Dunes shift, meaning your path home may not look the same as your path out. Use celestial navigation at night and sun angles during the day. Watch for subtle changes in vegetation, which can indicate hidden subterranean water sources.
