Russian cuisine is shaped by its immense geography and long, harsh winters. It is characterized by hearty, comforting dishes designed to sustain people through the cold, utilizing root vegetables, preserved foods, and rich dairy.
The Samovar and Tea Culture
The samovar, a heated metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water, is the centerpiece of Russian tea culture. Tea is often served very strong (zavarka) and diluted to taste with hot water from the samovar, typically enjoyed alongside sweets and jams.

Blini and Caviar
Blini are thin, crepe-like pancakes made from wheat or buckwheat flour. They hold deep cultural significance, historically symbolizing the sun and the end of winter during Maslenitsa. They are often served with sour cream (smetana) and roe or caviar.
