Originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu in the 12th century, it gradually transformed into a Buddhist site. It is the pinnacle of the Khmer Empire's architectural ambition and remains the largest religious structure in the world.

Emerging from the dense Cambodian jungle, the massive complex is surrounded by a vast rectangular moat and features five lotus-like towers designed to represent Mount Meru, the home of the gods.
